Child protection briefing

In anticipation of the announcement from the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, Angela Constance on 25/02/16 Social Work Scotland produced a briefing that outlines important actions required in protecting Scotland's children. Read briefing

The launch of Social Work Scotland has coincided with an appropriate reflection by the standing committee about not only the key priorities, but about the need to increase the influence and impact of the profession on issues affecting children and young people.

The key priorities identified by the committee include:

  • the impact of health and social care on children’s services
  • the impact of new legislation
  • strategic commissioning
  • workload management and resource allocation in child care
  • mental health and assessment in secure care – conference workshop
  • the detention of young people in police custody
  • self directed support/personalisation in child care
  • national strategy for violence against women and girls
  • joint seminar with ADES/SOLACE – The Early Years
The next year will see work progressed on:

  • health and social care integration
  • close monitoring of the impact of new legislation
  • further clarity on strategic commissioning
  • the implications of personalisation
